Hundreds Gather to Celebrate the 10th Anniversary of the Armoy Road Races
AS 2018 signifies ten years since the launch of the Armoy Road Races and the Race of Legends, the Armoy Motorcycle Road Racing Club kick started the poignant celebrations by welcoming nearly 200 biking legends, enthusiasts and members of the Club to the Royal Court Hotel on Friday 11th May for a black tie gala dinner.
With a line-up of festivities planned throughout the year, the gala dinner marks the beginning of what is set to be a very special year for both the club and racing fans alike.
President of the Armoy Motorcycle Road Racing Club, William Munnis commented, “I was very proud to see so many people come together on Friday evening to kick start the celebrations. We have created a family in the biking community, both locally and nationally, throughout the years and the gala dinner was a great opportunity to get together and celebrate the world that is road racing.
“I would also like to take this opportunity to thank the staff at the Royal Court Hotel for their hospitality on the night. Speaking to those who attended the dinner, a fantastic night was had by all.”
Born from an initial idea by the locals in 2007, the Armoy Road Races has continued to grow from strength to strength, now positioning itself as one of the biggest national road races in Ireland, welcoming an increasing number of spectators from around the globe each year.
William continues, “The fact that the Armoy Road Races Bayview Hotel Race of Legends, is not only the youngest but the best national road race in Ireland, demonstrates how far the club has come in its ten short years.
“Generations of biking fans, including our many sponsors, have worked hard to get where we are today, so I think that it is very important to recognise and celebrate that journey and the gala dinner marked only the beginning of what we’ve got planned.
“The Armoy Road Races is still in its infancy and judging by the up and coming talent we have coming through the ranks, I have every faith that the next generation will continue to support and drive the club for many years to come.”
This year, Bike Week runs from Saturday 21st July until Saturday 28th July with the races, supported by the Causeway Coast & Glens Borough Council, taking place on Friday 27th July and Saturday 28th July 2018 culminating in the Bayview Hotel ‘Race of Legends’.
